In the spotlight: Zebra
The Slovenian brand Zebra brings the magic and craftsmanship of 19th-century photographic techniques to the modern analog photographer. In 2017, founder Nejc Zupan began experimenting with old, often-forgotten photographic processes and silver gelatin emulsions from his own workshop. What began as a passionate quest to rediscover the historical craft of photography has grown into a beloved brand that makes old photographic techniques accessible, precise, and practical once again.
Zebra owes its fame to the handmade Zebra Dry Plates: ready-to-use glass dry plates that allow photographers to experience the unique sharpness, exceptional contrast, and tactile character of classic plate photography. To make working with these plates as easy as possible, the brand also designs many other handy accessories for wet and dry plate photography.
In addition, Zebra develops well-thought-out tools for the broader world of analog and alternative photography. For example, the brand’s lineup includes the innovative Daylight Developing Tanks for developing sheet film and plates up to 8x10" in daylight, as well as solutions that, until recently, were no longer available new on the market, such as film safes.
